Singapore Series: Duck Tour
If you haven’t heard of it before, the Singaporean Duck Tour is a well-known tour vehicle that starts on land, goes into water and ends up back on land. It costs SD43 per person and is one hour in duration, and there are other packages where you can go on the Big Bus for an additional cost. Boarding is at Suntec City (one of many shopping districts) and when the time comes, you board a small vehicle. There is a tour guide who sits at the front and gives you interesting information about the city.
After a short while of driving towards the river, there is a brief moment of anxiety as the tour guide amps up the atmosphere preparing you for an almighty bump when the vehicle goes from land to river. In actual fact, it’s not that bad, you just need to be careful where you’re sitting as you might get splashed a bit - although sometimes that’s half the fun of a tour like this!
Once on the river, the views are incredible! Unfortunately for us, the day was quite grey and gloomy so we tried to make the best of photographs but on a sunny day, you’d get the most perfect pictures! As you cruise, you get to see different angles of Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the Durian (Esplanade Theatres), Gardens by the Bay, Merlion and Singapore Flyer - all of Singapore’s iconic landmarks.
Finally, you go back onto land and the vehicle drives around showing other sites such as the Old Supreme Court, the War Memorial Park and much more. As you leave the bus, they encourage you to ring the bell (before you descend the steps) as a sign of good luck. I’m so bah humbug I refuse to do this, but don’t worry, we do tip! :)
This was my second time on the duck tour, but I have to say the first time the tour guide was much more engaging as a person and this time around, I could barely hear the tour guide due to the engine noise. This was the only “negative” this time around but otherwise, it’s definitely a tour I would recommend any newcomers or tourists to partake in! xo
