Lisa Eldridge - Lipstick Review

Lisa Eldridge - Lipstick Review

Anyone that knows me, will know I’m a huge Lisa Eldridge fan. Why? Because not only is she a talented makeup artist but she’s also extremely sweet and humble. In a heavily saturated makeup industry, and egos filling every space possible, Lisa’s attitude is really refreshing and what makes her stand out.

If you’re a fellow Lisa fan, you’ll know that she started on the Lancôme counter, but soon enough worked her way up to become a respected makeup artist in her own right. She’s done one full circle to become the Global Creative Director of Lancôme. Lisa has a long list of celebrity clientele, is the author of the New York Times bestseller ‘Face Paint’ and has her own makeup and jewellery line! All I managed to do today was blog, and try not to look like a potato!

Lisa is also the reason that I had the confidence to venture into the makeup industry, after a dramatic career change from social work. I soaked up all her Youtube videos learning her tips and tricks, and made notes of the products she had recommended. She inspired me to attend a makeup school and I vowed one day, that if I wasn’t as good a makeup artist as her, I would at the very least have the same honesty, passion and humility whilst creating my own blog and channel.

I remember attending a Stylist event in 2016, just to see Lisa in conversation with Sali Hughes. Meeting someone in person that you’ve admired for so long, can often lead to massive disappointment when you’re suddenly faced with their ego, but Lisa was different. She came across as sweet in person, as she is on our screens and this made me respect her even more. I even purchased a copy of Face Paint, and queued up for Lisa to sign. I’m not the fan girl-ing type, so trust me when I say, this was a huge deal!

For years now, I have wanted Lisa to create her own makeup line and though there was a sneaky mention at the above Stylist event, nothing happened until the blessed year of 2018. Lisa launched and boy did she launch with her A-game on! Lisa launched with three red lipsticks; Velvet Morning, Velvet Ribbon and Velvet Jazz. Unfortunately I snoozed, and I loosed (lost)…before I knew it, they were all sold out and my soul was crushed!

Lisa promised to create more lipsticks and earlier this year, she delivered four new shades and 2 new formulas of lipsticks; ‘Go Lightly’ & ‘Love of My Life’ in the Luxuriously Lucent Lip Colour and ‘Rainbow Spill’ & ‘Skyscraper Rose’ in the Insanely Saturated Lip Colour collection. This time, all four colours were pinky tones. I will unashamedly admit it, I set an alarm reminder for the launch of her lipsticks. I purchased Go Lightly and Rainbow Spill which came with a complimentary gift of a gold and turquoise makeup bag. The makeup bag somehow reminds me of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin.

‘Go Lightly’ (middle shade) is a gorgeous pinky/ peach tone that is sheer, but buildable and perfect for everyday wear. It’s described as luxuriously lucent and that it is! It gives that expensive shiny finish, with great colour pay off. ‘Rainbow Spill’ is an almost neon pink in a creamy matte finish. It’s correctly described as insanely saturated as you literally have all the pigment in one swipe. Its also matte without being drying to the lips, and this is difficult to achieve.

You can then only imagine my reaction when shortly after that, Lisa announced she would be re-launching her famous original reds! Though I was in Paris, I received the reminder on time, only to have the set of three lipsticks (in the black velvet bag) snatched out of my online basket. I didn’t even know that was a thing?! I silently cursed the woman who took the last trio of lipsticks, and bought Velvet Ribbon on its own. I have never typed my details so fast into the checkout form, bloody hell!

Yes I have a lot of reds, as I’m such a huge red lover, but one more wouldn’t hurt! To be honest, I have enough to paint my entire street red. When I first received Velvet Ribbon (classic bluey red), I couldn’t stop staring at it. It should literally win the title of the most beautiful and luxurious red lipstick. The surface of the lipstick was covered in what looks like red velvet and you don’t want to touch it, as you feel you’ll ruin it. Though I tried bloody hard, I couldn’t get a picture of that texture, so I settled for the one above.

At £26 per lipstick, they are so worth it and more luxurious than some high-end luxury brands. Whether it’s a gift for someone else or to yourself, I would highly recommend Lisa’s lipsticks for the colours, pigment, longevity and luxury packaging. Currently all lipsticks are out of stock, but she will be restocking all existing shades, and launching new shades (!!) in October. Yes, I have already signed up to the mailing list.

Until next time xo
